Watchmen
★★★★★★★★★☆(9/10)

Gotta say I was pretty neutral when I walked into iMax. Was expecting the usual hero flick with red undies, kickass masks, kickass action and a hot chic. Instead I got blue cocks, cheesy costumes, a couple actions and a hot chic. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed EVERY minute of the movie. I was never bored through the whole 165 minutes, except near the end when I felt my ass was starting to soar and I wanted to stand up.

The reviews in Hong Kong were pretty 50/50. If you walk into the theater expecting X-men-like plots and action, you may be turned down. Way down, and I think that's the case for most of the negative reviews. There's a type of urge when watching a hero movie where you can't wait till the action starts, and let me warn you in Watchmen it is REALLY long. Considering the people in Hong Kong are typically impatient, it just won't work.

It worked perfectly fine for me because the art, visuals, design, production, editing, everything you see was made to near perfection in every minute. The approach to project "peace" was very unique for a hero flick and I have to admit I was betrayed many times (in a good way), which makes it that much more interesting to look forward to what's coming up next. If visuals and impact (and a twisted perspective) is a thing for you, I highly recommend to watch this in iMax.

I actually wanna see that movie. I thought it would have a lot of action in it though... wasn't it supposed to be about superheroes getting killed or something?

Yea, but 'getting killed' doesn't mean a lot of actions. It can be done with a shot of a gun. It's got cool actions actually. And sukunai towa ienaikedo, just not like X-men toka. And Mr.Manhattan alone is a reason good enough to go watch the movie. Make sure you watch the uncut version though.

I'm interested in this movie too.
Like as always, preview looks good but is it worth paying 1,500 yen to see it or dvd rental is good enough?

One thing I have to say first before all things is, don't go with your wife! So far I'm hearing a bash rate of 90% from women! Maybe it's just Hong Kong, coz the chics here don't dig "unexpected" things. This movie was really unexpected in many ways but that's what made me like it more. It's worth every penny (yen) for the art and visuals though. Maybe the action seems less coz it's 165min long. You can tell it's so hard to justify this movie from how much I'm typing here lol.

Depends what you're looking forward to...It's nothing like X-men or Spiderman. More conceptual in theories, etc. The outfits are cheesy coz it's a remake from a comic book originating from way back then. I'd suggest you watch it on screen (if it's still on) unless you have a 42"+ LCD.
